Sports News – 23/1/17
On Monday 16th January, 29 of our pupils went along to Oakwood for the first sport festivals of 2017. 20 Y5/6 pupils competed in the Indoor Sportshall Athletics and 9 Y3/4 pupils competed at Basketball. Both festivals were thoroughly enjoyed by all the pupils that took part and it was great to see our pupils representing Sitwell fantastically.
Well done to all the Y3/4 pupils who took part in the Basketball festival. I was very proud of their performances and efforts as this was their first ever competitive sports match for many of them. Unfortunately, the team did not qualify for the Rawmarsh Partnership Finals as they finished 3rd in the Oakwood scoring system but this does not take anything away from how excellent they played and they should be very proud of themselves.

Y5/6 Indoor Sportshall Athletics
Again, a big well done to all of the Y5/6 pupils who took part in their event(s) for the Indoor Sportshall Athletics festival. Each of the 20 pupils had their own specific field or track event to compete in which would be added to the team’s overall result. After waiting for the results to be e-mailed from Oakwood, it gives me great pleasure to say that the athletics team performed brilliantly in their events and with lots of individual 1st place finishes, the team finished 1st place in the competition and will now go to the Rawmarsh Partnership Finals next half term. This is a fantastic achievement for the team as again some of the pupils who took part were competing in their first ever competitive event.
Y5/6 Athletics team: Kraig Bayliss, Suhail Zahoor, Arley Hewitt, Louis Williams, Haider Elsebai, Sam Bell, Ismaeel Siddiqui, Hamid Hussain, Mustafa Ayub, Hanan Afsar, Imaan Javed, Ashlea Leung, Bliss Dennis, Leah Wilson, Lucy Rackham, Sophie Austin, Ella Stewart, Emily Nicol, Teha Ward, Amina Hussain
The Sport Festivals are gradually starting to pick back up again, after the Christmas period, and football league matches will start to be organised again as the weather becomes lighter outside between 4.00pm and 5.00pm.
The Netball and Basketball sport festivals, which were unfortunately cancelled before Christmas, are going to be re-arranged by Oakwood so the same pupils who were chosen will still represent the school. The Y5/6 Netball festival is looking like it will go ahead on the 30th January and the Y5/6 Basketball date still needs to be confirmed. However, all pupils will receive a letter again, once a date is 100% confirmed, so that parents can confirm their attendance.
